Online Disclosure & Barring Service

The Police Act 1997 established the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) to give employers and voluntary organisations access to criminal record information.  The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks

South West Councils offers an online DBS checking service in partnership with North East Regional Employers’ Organisation, who is a Registered Body in accordance with paragraph 120 of the Police Act 1997.  DBS checks are processed quickly and cost effectively via the online DBS system. The secure online environment provides a speedy, economical and high quality service based on absolute accuracy.

Benefits to using the online service?

  • Online processing is over 50% faster compared to paper applications

  • No Postage
