Last year there were 5,691 suicides registered in England and Wales. Around three-quarters of registered deaths were among men (4,303 deaths), which follows a consistent trend back to the mid-1990s. The most common cause of death in men under 50 is suicide.  In addition, men commit the majority of violent crime and 95% of the prison population are male. This workshop looks at some of the deeply concerning outcomes for men in society and just as importantly what we can do to help make our workplace and society a better place for everyone.

About Daran

I am the co-chair of North Somerset’s Male Health Stakeholder Group and have a passion for looking at issues around men’s health, in particular Mental Health and Wellbeing. I deliver talks to young people and community groups and am an active member of Talk Club, a men’s mental fitness movement that is growing across the UK. My interest in mental health has grown over the years due to personal and professional experiences. Over this time, I have been very fortunate to be involved in projects and work where my understanding and knowledge has grown. I firmly believe that education is the key in how we respond to and promote mental health awareness.
