English Unlocked: How to work effectively with interpreters
Date:
3rd February 2026
10:00 – 12:00hrs
Venue:
This workshop is delivered remotely via Zoom.
Description:
South West Councils are happy to offer this upcoming workshop hosted by English Unlocked. The workshop is targeted towards ESOL practitioners
Did you know? When you book a public service interpreter, the agency is not required by law to send you someone qualified. In fact it was reported in 2025 that 60% of qualified interpreters have left the profession.
In this two-hour workshop, you will learn how to:
-
Book qualified interpreters
-
Communicate in a way which makes accurate interpreting easier
-
Recognise signs of unsafe and unethical interpreting.
If you deliver public services or work in the third sector, your clients who rely on interpreters are vulnerable and need you to have these vital skills.
The training covers both face-to-face and telephone interpreting and is delivered by interpreter and translator Marta Leigh.
About Marta – Originally from Poland, Marta Leigh is one of the most highly qualified language professionals currently working in the UK. As well as working for English Unlocked, she trains Public Service Interpreters and owns Klotski Translations. She has a wide experience of interpreting in all public sector settings, so if you have questions about how interpreting works best in your particular field, Marta will be able to answer them.
