Description:

This 3-day ILM qualification provides a programme of essential knowledge and skills to supervise, support and motivate volunteers. Learners who attend the learning and successfully complete 3 written assignments will achieve this professionally recognised qualification.

Day 1 Promote volunteering within your organisation and to volunteers

• ILM qualification overview and induction
• Understanding volunteers – who and why
• Volunteer roles and organisational contribution
• Skills, knowledge and attributes of volunteers
• Finding and engaging with potential volunteers

Day 2 Managing volunteer agreements

• The employment status of volunteers
• The differences between employment contracts and volunteer agreements
• Recruiting and selecting volunteers
• Having appropriate volunteer policies in place
• Legislation that impacts on volunteer agreements and relationships
• Managing underperformance of volunteers
• Motivating and rewarding good performance
• Communication and delegation
• Giving feedback
• Assignment discussion

Day 3 Supervise and support volunteers

• Planning and organising volunteers’ work
• Setting appropriate objectives
• Identifying individual and team development needs
• Exploring development options and strategies
• Encouraging volunteers to be reflective
• Assignment discussion
