Undertaking a successful Members Allowance Review – virtual workshop
About the course
All Councils are required to review the members allowances at least every four years led by an Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP). Any review needs to be undertaken in accordance with the 2003 Regulations and be both transparent and accountable.
This workshop organised by South East Employers will provide the knowledge, skills and expertise to chair, lead and support a successful members allowance review. The workshop led by an expert in members allowances is targeted at:
– IRP Chairs
– IRP Members
– Officers with responsibility for leading and supporting the review in their respective Council
The workshop will look at undertaking a review within an Executive and Committee Council; and the role of the IRP in setting allowances for Parish and Town Councils.
The course will consist of:
– Undertaking a successful members allowance review, the legal framework (2003 Regulations)
– Recruiting an IRP
– Determining the terms of reference for a review, the role of councillors and officer
– Review preparation
– Setting the Basic Allowance
– Determining the Special Responsibility Allowances
– The role of an IRP in promoting councillor diversity and supporting local democracy- Parental Leave Policy, Dependent Care and other allowances.
– Parish and Town Council allowances the role of the IRP.

- £99 (+VAT) per delegate for South West Councils members
- £130 (+VAT) for non-member Councils
The workshop has a maximum of 20 delegates so early booking is advisable.
