Apprenticeship End-Point Assessment

Our EPA provision is flexible, personalised and supportive.

For employers

South West Councils is a well-established EPAO with a history that dates back to 1916.  We work with employers, training providers and apprentices from a broad range of sectors, using our local government background to specialise in public sector apprentices.  At the start of their EPA period, your apprentices are assigned a dedicated EPA advisor who guides them through the assessment process, agrees a suitable assessment schedule with them and provides support on the use of our EPA portal.  Assessments are normally carried out remotely to reflect contemporary working practices, to minimise impact on your organisation and to reduce costs through saving time on assessor travel.

What an employer said about South West Councils:

“We have worked with South West Councils EPAO service for a good few years now and are really pleased with the service we receive. SW Councils are different to other EPAOs as they also provide that personal touch, they go above and beyond to ensure the employer and learner know and understand the process and provide regular communication updates to ensure everyone is in the loop. As an employer we want our learners to be the best they can be, and [SW Councils] has helped us work with our providers to grow our programmes and help increase our distinction rates by providing useful data. We’re continuing to grow our apprenticeship programme and will continue to work with SW Councils as much as possible. Thank you SW Councils for making the EPAO process as seamless as possible!”

For training providers

From onboarding to reasonable adjustments and assessment plan queries, you receive one-to-one support from a dedicated liaison contact. Regular review meetings provide you with the tailored analysis, feedback and trends needed to implement meaningful improvements to your apprenticeship delivery. A range of guidance documents, including mock assessment frameworks, are provided to assist you in preparing apprentices ahead of their transition to EPA. South West Councils manage all scheduling, queries and uploading of evidence during the apprentice’s EPA period, allowing you to focus your resources on delivering high quality training. In the event an apprentice fails an assessment, you receive detailed, targeted feedback that allows you to support their preparation ahead of reassessment.

What a training provider said about South West Councils:

“We have been working with South West Councils since 2020. They are a friendly, flexible, helpful and approachable End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO). They regularly adapt their approach to work with us in a way that meets our apprentices’ individual needs. They are on hand to give us support and listen to feedback and have produced documents to support us and our apprentices further. South West Councils are unlike any other EPAO that we work with as they are always at the end of the phone, quick to respond and meet our needs without any fuss.”

For apprentices

We have a flexible scheduling approach so that your assessment can fit into your other commitments. We conduct an individual planning meeting with you to ensure you are fully prepared and know what to expect from the EPA experience. We also discuss your individual requirements, timelines and provide guidance to help you be successful in your EPA.

What apprentices have said about South West Councils:

“Very clear instructions throughout the whole process and I was very happy with my experience”

“Excellent communication throughout so there were no surprises throughout the process and I knew exactly what was expected of me and when I needed to submit evidence”
