Members and Governance

South West Councils is one of the nine regional employers’ organisations which represent the interests of local authorities and public sector bodies in England. As the regional employers organisation for the South West, we are listed with the Certification Office under the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992.

Official List of Employers’ Associations and their annual returns

SW Councils is  independent and not-for-profit and supports collaboration and the sharing of best practice across the 29 local authorities in the south west.  Each full member may nominate one of their councillors to be their representative on South West Councils. There are also 10 additional members appointed from the political groups to South West Councils on the basis of the proportionality figures calculated for the South West which are independently verified. From this our Resource and Management Committee is elected at our AGM.
